All this does is to remind me of the suffering this team has made me endure the past 10 years.

What a run. All brought to a close by the first boarding major in a cup finals elimination game. Just after a questionable call was missed against LA. Sure the Kings looked like the better team, but you never know what could happen. Would’ve been amazing for Brodeur and Elias to get 1 more Cup at the end of their careers.

I guess you could bring Henrique and Parise back, just for nostalgia's sake.

Solid showing for the Devils(and maybe future Devil?) throughout the World Championships group stage:

-Mercer leads all Canadian forwards with an 82% xGF% and is 2nd with a 66% CF%
-Severson leads all Canadian defenseman with a 78% xGF% and 69% CF%
-Graves has been decent with a 57 xGF% and 53% CF%

-Nico leads all Swiss forwards with a 76% xGF% and 66% CF%
-Siegs has done Siegs things with a 69% xGF% and 62% CF%

-Luke has had an overall good tournament with a 53% xGF% and a 56% CF%

-Tatar has been snakbitten at times but has a 63% xGF% and a 61% CF%

-Possible 2nd overall pick Slafkovsky has had some real solid games, mixed with some where he didn't do much, but leads all Slovak forwards with a 69% xGF%. Also has a 61% CF%.

Some good quarterfinal games tomorrow with USA vs Switzerland and Canada vs Sweden. Also interested to see how Slafkovsky does as Slovakia takes on Finland, as Finland has been the best defensive team in the tournament through group play(only 5 goals against in 6 games).

Nope, Meier is definitely not worth 2nd overall. The pick isn't being moved unless its in a package for a Tkachuk/DeBrincat type of player. It's not getting moved.

(frank)ing Ek posting the Devils should try to sign Giroux. Yeah, like we need more roster issues

Think that was Kevin Allen writing in eks place but yeah doesn't make much sense

He wouldn't come to the devil's as he would want to go to a contending team and not to a rebuilding team that was a rival

If he were to sign it's only because it would be a big overpayment

Combining multiple messages from our friend Todd Cordell in his discord today,(*all based on if the Devils keep the pick obviously*)"Cooley is almost certainly not going to be a Devil. I'm confident the Devils are taking Slaf."

I think trading 2OA is fine if you're getting a player like Debrincat back. But this Slafkovsky kid seems like the real deal if we don't end up getting a great trade lined up anyway.

Thing is with Minnesota is that they need forward that are cheap. They have a lot of depth defensemen signed. Only ~7mil cap space for 5 players so even if we want to trade Zacha to them their cap situation is so (frank)ed that Zacha re-signed for 3-4 mil isn't even possible for them. We'd have to take on a poopty contract like Greenway as part of the deal.

Meier had a great season but the big problem is that he needs a 10mil QO after this season so his value is going to be lower on the trade market if you can't guarantee re-sign him before acquiring. Also, might be able to just get him for "free" when the Sharks don't qualify him and let him walk into free agency anyway.

Yup, Russo said the return for Fiala will almost certainly be futures. So pick(s) and prospects/cheap young players that they can throw into their lineup on ELCs. The most common package I see from the Devils for Fiala is 2nd round pick and two of Zetterlund/Foote/Boqvist. The question is if Ottawa is dumb enough to offer 7th overall for him, because if they do then nobody is beating that offer. But Minny has almost no leverage, and Fiala somewhat controls where he goes because nobody is trading for him if he won't sign long term, so it'll be tough for them to actually get good/fair value.

Fiala is gonna fetch a nice return, and a lot of teams are going to be offering stuff.

The centerpiece of what goes the other way has to be a player of his potential. His numbers are top 6 (if he's playing with Kaprizov, they're a bit inflated). Ty Smith or Shakir Mook would probably have to be going the other way with extra assets (ie, the 2nd, and another prospect). Smith's value dropped a bit... so... Mook would probably be the guy. Minni might like Gritsyuk, too.

It won't surprise me at all if another team makes a big offer that no one saw coming... there's gonna be a lot of teams in on that guy, and it will probably result in a 1st round pick as part of the package.

The return is going to end up being cheaper than you think. They're obviously going to get a decent package, but theyre not going to get full value for him based on multiple reasons. 1) Minnesota literally cannot afford him unless they move out other pieces. 2)He is an RFA and 1 year away from UFA, so he essentially controls where he goes because he would need to commit to a long term extension before anybody trades for him. 3)He is going to cost atleast 7.5M, so that takes a bunch of teams out of it because they won't be able to afford him without moving salary out(which Minnesota obviously cant take back). It also doesnt help that he disappeared in the playoffs and then his GM publicly said that he didnt show up in the playoffs and that he "only had 3 good months." Minny has almost zero leverage here.

Buchnevich and Reinhart are similar cases to this, and the returns were not fantastic for those players. The Devils winning the lottery and moving into the top 2 really took a big chip out of the potential bidding war, so unless the Sens offer up the 7th overall pick(which would be dumb of them) then I don't think somebody is going to offer some big haul for him.

A package from us would include some combination of either our 2nd round pick this year or a protected 1st next year, alongside one or two cheap/team controlled players/prospects.

On Minni not affording him, that can only be used as leverage against them if other teams aren't making offers. If five to ten teams are making offers, then it's no longer leveraged against them.

Minnesota can also give teams permission to talk to the agent to work out a deal before the asset is traded. This enhanced Mark Stone's value in the trade to Vegas.

He only costs 7.5 if he accepts a QO. Teams can make deals with him for less if he says yes. The KK situation resolved in this way.

What determines his value the most... is him. If he's stubborn, his value goes down, but that's universally true with all players. Heatley got garbage returns because he only accepted one trade destination (when he went Ott to SJ).

Teams will also make their own assessment of why Minnesota lost their series and why Fiala was ineffective. I doubt that only two teams are calling for him. If so... better for NJ I suppose... they can send Guerin ridiculously little and he'd have to accept it like the Sharks ripped off Ottawa for Heatley... or how Tampa had to take on Ryan Callahan's contract in the Martin St Louis trade.
